Here is what some of our customers have to say about
us....

Laz Cabanas writes:

"I am a collector of high-end modern, boutique and vintage guitars and
I trust no one other than Jim to work on my gear.

I have tried most of the so-called Luthiers in the NW New Jersey
area and none have provided the consistent quality of work Jim has.

Recently, Jim did a fret job on one of my valuable vintage Fender
Stratocasters.  The fret work was not only extremely well done, but it was
exactly to vintage specs.

Jim has worked on virtually all the guitars in my collection, Gibson
Les Pauls, Fender Stratocasters and Telecasters, Gene Baker Robben
Ford model guitars, Collings, Sadowsky and the list goes on.  He has
done a variety of repairs, as well as extensive electronic work on my
guitars.  Jim has also worked on my pedal boards."

"I build hand carved one-of-a-kind guitars.  I
can spend anywhere from 3 to 9 months to
complete one guitar. Hundreds of hours go
into the design and execution of these
musical pieces of art.

I won't trust anyone but Jim to do any repairs
or maintenance of these masterpieces."

Thanks buddy"

"I've been going to The Fret Shop for about 8 years now.  Jim has worked on my entire arsenal of bass
guitars......electric and acoustic.  When Jim takes on a repair, not only does the problem get taken care of
but he'll also instruct you as to how you can maintain your instrument so you don't have to keep running
back to him.  My Rickenbacker had a bad twist in the neck near the headstock.  Jim set it up and now it
plays better than new!!!  You can trust Jim with all of your high end gear.  Keep up the great work!"

Jeff Rand

"Every time I have trouble with one of my guitars, Jim is the first person I think of.   There's
no job too great or too small, he takes the same amount of care in all situations.    Each time
I've entrusted Jim with a repair, I've walked away very confident my instrument won't fail me.
Jim's pricing is competitive but you'll never feel ripped off!  When it comes to guitar repairs,
put Fret Shop and Jim at the top of your list!! "

Steven Wells
"Jim has done a number of set-ups and electrical repairs on
my vast collection of guitars and I was completely satisfied
with the work each and every time. One time, I went to play
my Fender Telecaster at a show and found that the neck
pick-up suddenly was not working.  When I brought the guitar
to Jim, he immediately did a quick diagnosis and thought that
the pick-up had to be replaced.  When he went to do the
actual repair, he found that the culprit of the problem was a
failed solder joint and repaired it instead of replacing the
pickup.  Most shops would replace the pick-up to maximize
the cost of the repair, but Jim is of a rare breed; he is
trustworthy.  That's the main reason why I will only bring my
guitars to Jim.

I am also the proud owner of a Hobson “Strat” style guitar.
Though I have many guitars to choose from, I always bring
my Hobson to each and every show.  I had purchased a new
Fender American Deluxe Fat Strat a few years before, and I
ended up selling it because I liked the sound and feel of my
Hobson far better."

"Jim and Bill Hobson have been repairing, tweaking and customizing
my guitars for 2 years, and I trust no one else (including me!) to work
on my small arsenal of left handed 6 string and bass guitars. They
have worked on my vintage ’63 Hofner, my Vantage VS600b and my
Rogue hollow body bass guitars, adjusting action, neck work, frets and
electronics. Jim recently overhauled my troublesome,’82 Fender strat,
replacing the neck, pick guard, knobs and electronics restoring the
guitar to perfection. I also have a Washburn BT4 electric (that I bought
at the Fret Shop) and a vintage Guild S100 solid body electric that the
boys brought back from the dead! This work included a delicate pearl
inlay replacement.
The Fret shop has a comfortable family atmosphere. Much of the
work, repairs and tweaking is done on work benches in full view of the
patronage who either watch the work being done to their guitar or
watched while moms and dads sit as there sons and daughters take
lessons in the two adjacent lessons rooms. There are the sounds of
young and old students playing their guitars ringing softly through the
room. One gets the feel of music, art and craftsmanship working hand
in hand at the Fret Shop."
